The VPL scheme will expire on 1 January 2023

VPL is an extra pension in addition to your occupational retirement pension and partner’s pension. This is a compensation for a small group of members for whom the pension build-up became lower in 2005 due to a change in the pension scheme. The VPL scheme will expire on 1 January 2023.

If you are still employed by a merchant navy employer at that time, you will retain your right to the extra pension. Bpf Koopvaardij will convert your VPL into an unconditional pension. You will receive more information about this later in the year.

If you participated in the Bpf Koopvaardij pension scheme for less than 165 days in 2022, you will not be entitled to this extra pension. If you are leaving employment in 2022 and you will have participated for less than 165 days by then and you want to keep this VPL, this is possible: by voluntarily continuing the pension scheme or by having your pension commence earlier.

You can retire from the age of 55. At that time, the extra pension is converted into an occupational retirement pension. However, taking early retirement does have consequences for the amount of your pension.

At My Koopvaardij and on your annual Uniform Pension Overview (UPO), you can see whether you are eligible for VPL. You can also see the amount of this conditional pension.

If you wish to know more about VPL, go to Conditional pension or contact our Service Desk.
