I want to retire

Have you ever given it any thought? About when you wish to retire. How you would like to spend your time. The things that matter to you. And what level of income is appropriate. Sooner or later, the time will come when you’ll have to make choices about your pension. You make these choices yourself as they concern you. We will be happy to help you make those choices.

Where do I start?

You don’t have to know or arrange everything all at once. It helps to take a step-by-step look at what matters to you. Would you like to carry on working in the future, or would you prefer to stop? And how much income do you need to live comfortably? Think about this and you’ll get a clearer picture of what you want for the future.

Your situation is personal. Just because something suits someone else doesn’t mean it has to suit you. So think about your own future and that of your partner, if any. Will your partner have enough income for later on? And what will your life be like then?

By answering these questions for yourself, you’ll discover which choices are right for you.

  • Would you like to carry on working or would you prefer to stop?
  • How much income will you need when you retire? Does your partner have their own income and is it enough?
  • What does your future look like?

What will change when I retire?

Your income

How much you receive each month depends on the pension choices you make. At www.mijnpensioenoverzicht.nl, you can see an overview of your expected pension from your previous employers and your state pension.

Your partner’s income

Suppose you pass away. Then you’ll want your partner and children to be able to support themselves financially. At Pension for your family, you can read how your surviving dependants’ pension is arranged with us.

Your expenditure

Once you retire, your expenditure will change. Costs you incur for your work will disappear, and you may spend your free time differently. At www.nibud.nl/, the Pensioenschijf-van-vijf calculator will give you an insight into your future expenditure.

Tax and allowances

Due to a change in your income, you may end up paying more or less tax. Your allowances may also change. At www.belastingdienst.nl, you can find out what changes will affect you, for example when you reach state pension age.

What pension options do I have?

Under our pension scheme, you can choose:

In the pension planner in My Koopvaardij, you can see what these choices mean for you.

What does Bpf Koopvaardij arrange?

We will contact you 6 months before you reach state pension age to advise you on how to apply for your pension. You must apply for your pension no later than 2 months before you wish it to commence.

Have you applied for your pension? We will then calculate your pension based on the choices you have made. You will receive confirmation with the exact amounts within 3 weeks.

What do I arrange myself?

Plan for your retirement step by step:

  1. Find out about your pension and the options available to you.

  2. Compare the different options in the pension planner in My Koopvaardij.

  3. Calculate your income now and in the future.

  4. Discuss this with your partner, if any.

  5. Communicate your choices to us.

How do I apply for a pension?

You will receive a message from us 6 months before your state pension age inviting you to apply for your pension. Your pension does not commence automatically. Apply for your pension no later than 2 months before you wish it to commence. In the step-by-step guide to applying for a pension, you can find out how to apply for your pension.

Remember: once your pension commences, your choices are final. You will therefore no longer be able to change these choices.

Do you have a partner? If so, bear in mind that he or she will also need to sign your pension application (digitally or otherwise).

What happens if I do nothing?

What happens if you do nothing? In that case, your pension will not commence when you reach state pension age. Your pension will then be postponed. What if you apply for it later? In that case, you will also receive your pension later.
