Under the new pension scheme, your pension assets are central if you build up pension with Bpf Koopvaardij. These assets are invested and move more in line with economic developments. That means your pension could increase more quickly if the economy is doing well. That’s because we need to keep less money on hand. But it can also decrease if things worsen economically. Good to know: we spread out windfalls and setbacks over several years.
On this page, you can read about the role of the solidarity reserve and when your pension will be adjusted.
What role does the solidarity reserve play?
Ensuring a stable pension is and remains an important guiding principle. Especially for pensioners. To achieve this, we are taking several measures. For instance, we take less investment risk for pensioners. We also have a shared buffer, the ‘solidarity reserve’. You can find more information on the solidarity reserve in the frequently asked questions and answers.
When and why will your pension be adjusted?
When you retire, we calculate how much pension you will receive each month based on your pension assets. Every year on 30 September, we review the fund’s financial position to determine whether pensioners’ pensions will be adjusted and whether a top-up from the solidarity reserve is necessary and feasible.
We will adjust your pension no more than once a year, on 1 January. For the rest of the year, your pension remains the same. Everyone who receives a pension from us receives the same adjustment (increase or decrease or no adjustment).
