Surviving dependants

Your pension in the new scheme

On 1 January 2026, we converted all pensions to our new scheme. This also applies to the pension you receive as a surviving dependant. Between mid-March and the end of May, you will receive a letter or email showing your pension in the old and new scheme. You will also read why the amounts in this letter may be different from the previous letter.

Payment of your partner's pension in 2026

You receive a partner's pension every month. The letter shows your expected partner's pension in the old and new scheme. Your partner's pension is redetermined annually. The payment of your new partner's pension in 2026 will be as follows:

  • January and February: you will receive your pension amount according to the old scheme but with the 2026 tax rules.
Is your pension too low in these two months? The difference will be paid out to you retroactively.
Is your pension temporarily too high? You will not need to pay anything back.
  • From March: you will receive your pension amount according to the new scheme.
  • End of the year: you will be notified of your partner’s pension amount for 2027. Every year, the amount is recalculated. It will not change monthly.
  • All of 2026: view all payment dates for your pension benefit payment

Important: if your pension increases, your total income will also increase. Do you receive any allowances from the state? If so, this increase may also affect your allowances. For information about this, visit the website of the Dutch Tax and Customs Administration

Payment of your orphan's pension in 2026

You will receive an orphan's pension every month until you turn 25. The letter shows your expected orphan's pension in the old and new scheme. Your orphan's pension is redetermined annually. The payment of your new orphan's pension in 2026 will be as follows:

  • January and February: you will receive your pension amount according to the old scheme but with the 2026 tax rules. Is your pension too low in these two months? The difference will be paid out to you retroactively. Is your pension temporarily too high? You will not need to pay anything back.
  • From March: you will receive your pension amount according to the new scheme.
  • End of the year: you will be notified of your orphan’s pension amount for 2027. Every year, the amount is recalculated. It will not change monthly.

Important: if your pension increases, it may affect your allowances from the state. For information about this, visit the website of the Dutch Tax and Customs Administration

Your pension will move more in line with the economy

In the new scheme, your pension will move more with the economy because we invest your pension per age group. The older you get, the less risk we take with investments for the pensions of surviving dependants. That way, we ensure a more stable pension.
